Your Story is Important

At the end of the IWJ internship training we participated in the fifth anniversary of the Congress Hotel strike. Unite Here Local 1 reached an agreement with the rest of the Chicago downtown hotels for a living wage and other much needed benefits for employees five years ago. I didn't know much about unions before I started working at IWJ. I had heard comments over the years like "Unions were important once, but they aren't necessary today." I didn't know where to find accurate information on unions.

Well, IWJ has a great resource. I urge everyone to go to: http://www.iwj.org/materials/materials_wum.html and download "Why Unions Matter."

It is an introductory guide to what unions do, why they are important, and what happens during organizing drives.
